The first step is to fill out an online adoption application. Which one do I choose? You can find a terrific selection of dogs waiting for their forever home just like yours right on this page. Click over to the Adoptable Dogs link. If you find one you love, please put his or her name in your application. Or, if you still aren't sure which dog is right for you, contact us. Our volunteer/adoption specialists love playing matchmakers. They’d be delighted to hear from you or you may indicate so on your adoption application. What happens after I apply to adopt a Maltese Rescue California dog? All adoption applications are forwarded to our Adoption Coordinators for review. Based on the needs of our rescue dog and the descriptions in the adoption application, applicants are selected for a telephone interview. During the telephone call by our Adoption Coordinator, further information on the dog is presented and any areas of concern are discussed. An applicant’s questions are also answered during this call. Due to our limited staff, telephone contact is limited to an applicant who can provide the best care for our dog. After the telephone interview, our Adoption Coordinators confer on the applicant information and the suitability of the family for our rescue dog. If all parties feel the applicant and dog would be a good match, an appointment is scheduled for the applicant to meet the dog. A home visit may be scheduled by one of our representatives to determine if the home and yard provide a “safe” environment for our rescue dog. When the above steps are completed and the adoption donation/fee is paid, the dog joins the new family. **When several applicants desire to adopt the same dog, the Adoption Selection Committee selects the adoptive applicant who can best meet the dog’s needs. ** |
